Since leaving the great port city of Schendi, the gleaming jewel amid the dark
rain forests that stands between the plains and Thassa, you have travelled
with a large group of Merchants, and made your way down into wagon territories.
But of course you are not frightened, for you travel with Merchants and
Scarlets. You move slowly, inching through the old trails and roads within
the rain forests. Groups of slaves carry the luggage of the gold caste.
When you finally emerge from the thickets and trees, rolling golden hills
await you and a small group of Kataii wait to escort you through the plains.
Along the way, the days are filled with many diversions: carefree kaiila
riding, the pleasures of slaves, drinking and sparring with the mighty
warriors. There are no troubles of course, for who would interfere with
a Tribe of the Plains? Alas, the day comes when the Kataii fall upon you,
their bosk herd trampling the sands of the Plains and giving way to their
smooth gaited mounts, terrifying and beautiful. Within moments, your escorts
have moved to the side and enter a jousting match with those of the Kataii.
As the dust settles upon the Plains, the memory of those who walked with
you remains behind and you find yourself amongst slaves, bosk and loot,
a prisoner of the much feared Kataii. Trudging across the sands, you finally
arrive at the Kataii encampment only to find that the one who has taken
you is none other than the Ubar himself, White Lightening. The shaggy herd
is set free to graze as outriders patrol in vigilant groups of two and
three. The large and colorful wagons encircle the heartsblood of the camp;
pits for sparring and dancing, the servery with food and drink. Running
through the center of camp and across it is a narrow stream, along which
rest the the wagons. At the very entrance of the camp is the guard, sleen
on either side. Manned by about three warriors your lead in riding through
the camp smoke rising up from the various fires and fire pits, as you make
your way along the stream to the end of the camp. Upon reaching it the
Ubar, White Lightening, and the Camp Second, walk up to the dais seeming
to discuss something of the raid. The Ubar then turns to you and announces
you are welcomed in peace amongst the Kataii. Seated in guest furs, and
given one of the few free wagons, you are served by beautiful girls of
the Kataii, the wagon people raiders of Turia.
